Project Detail
Lower Edward Street is conceived as a civic courtyard for Brisbane—an architectural response grounded in climate, culture and long-term urban value. The conceptual framework centres on openness, adaptability and legacy: an outdoor-room that reconnects people to street, sky and subtropical conditions. Guided by the client’s vision for “Brisbane’s Babylon,” the project embraces shade, landscape and social exchange as its core ideas, reinterpreting the civic courtyard as a contemporary place for living, working and gathering in the CBD.
The project delivers clear public and cultural benefits by introducing a new leisure-focused destination within a previously under-served part of the city.
A shaded, naturally ventilated environment with layered gardens creates amenity, comfort and year-round activation, extending the public domain and encouraging day-to-night and weekday-to-weekend use.
